Whether you are a digital nomad, looking for an adventure in the great outdoors, or just want to travel while making money, there are plenty of opportunities for you. In this article, we will discuss 5 ways that travelers can earn money on the road.
1) Take photos of the places you visit and sell them to stock photo companies or to people that need them.
Freelancer, Upwork, Fiverr are great sites to find photography related work because it offers the opportunity for photographers, photojournalists or individuals like you and me sell their services. You don’t have to be a professional photographer to sell your services to these websites as they are really open to any person with a camera (it could be a high-end phone).
You can also upload your photos on Shutterstock or iStockPhoto. For example, if you take pictures of beautiful landscapes with good lighting during sunset hours, this content may be valuable to someone who is writing for an outdoor and nature-themed blog.
2) Write (and sell) blogs about your experience visiting that place
Find local bloggers in the area and write posts for their blog about your experience visiting that place. You can get paid anywhere from $50 to a few thousand dollars depending on your post and the blogger’s audience.
3) Sell your Expertise on websites such as Fiverr, Freelancer and Upwork
Another way to make money for travelers is to make their expertise available as service through sites like Fiverr or Upwork. This can be done during travel time while still exploring a new place or it can happen when you are back home, saving money for your next holiday.
People on Upwork, freelancer and fiverr tend to be looking for services such as:
• Writing blog posts on any topic in exchange for $50-$500. Some interesting topics that have a lot of people purchasing blogs for are Traveling, Education, Dating, Gaming etc.
• Designing logos, flyers, posters or social media posts in exchange for between $50 and $100 per hour of work.
• Freelance design work for companies making simple websites, graphic designs etc.
• Teaching English in countries where it is a second language (i.e., the Philippines, China)
• Tutoring kids one on one in subjects like math or languages such as English, Spanish and Greek
• Providing SEO Services to businesses that are interested in making their websites more search engine friendly.
Although that it sounds easy, if you don’t have any specific expertise, you will need to learn something in order to be able to sell it.
3) Forex trading
The forex market lets traders buy and sell different currencies all over the world. This is one of the most popular ways to make money as a traveler because it allows people to trade on their schedule.
There is no one way to learn forex trading, but most new traders study a variety of resources and practice by opening demo accounts before investing any real money. Many financial institutions and forex brokers offer online courses that are designed for beginners as well as more advanced students looking to improve their trading skillset.
Forex trading can be done by amateur investors who want to spend an hour or two every day following the market’s fluctuations in order make some extra cash while they travel abroad – or it can take up your full time if you’re serious about building wealth through this method.
A few popular places where people learn forex are:
• Forex Blogs
• Investopedia
• Free Webinars
• Free Seminars (Widely available in Asian and European Countries)
• By testing Forex Strategies with your Demo account
Before you get started, you will need to understand some basic Forex Trading terminology and the main concepts such as Leverage, Pips and Margin.
Forex: The foreign exchange market is the largest one in the world with an average daily trading volume of $US/£220 billion. It trades 24 hours a day from Sunday at 22:00 GMT to Friday evening at 21:59 (New York time).
Leverage: This is the amount you can borrow in order to trade larger amounts than your initial investment. For example, if we have an account that has £1000 in it and want to invest £200 into forex then our leverage will be 200 but this means we’ll need some collateral for that position as well
Pip Value: A pip value represents both positive or negative movements on a currency pair. It is a fracional metric that is commonly used in forex trading to measure the change in relative value
Margin: This represents how much of a position you want to open, or what percentage. If we have £1000 and wanted to invest £200 into forex then this means our margin would be 50% which means if the trade went against us by an amount equal to one pip’s worth (ie from $15000 (£11864) to $14500 (£11508)) it will wipe out all cash remaining on our account
4) Language tuition
You can easily earn cash by teaching your native language on the road. If you’re not confident enough to teach English, there’s plenty of other opportunities in this field that are more niche and might suit you better.
• Online translation jobs: You can search online for freelance work translated from one langauge into another. This is a great option if you have an advanced level or two in a foreign language and want to make some quick bucks while traveling abroad. A website like Upwork offers many job postings – just be sure to read through their terms and conditions before applying!
• Teaching languages over Skype: For those with high levels of fluency in multiple languages but little experience as teachers, teaching students over Skype could be perfect for making money while on the road. There are many websites and online jobs boards for finding these types of teaching positions, such as italki or Verbling (a language learning website).
5) Seasonal work
Looking for job opportunities while traveling? You may be able to find temp work in an area you are staying. There are many ways to earn money while you’re traveling, such as fruit-picking, bartending, working at summer camps for kids or teaching languages.
In order to get started with Seasonal work you will need to:
1. Create a profile on the website of your destination country’s national employment center. These are often called Labour Exchanges or Job Centres, depending on where you are in the world and what language is spoken there.
2. Start with an online search to find potential employers who might be looking for someone like you– this will save time later when searching through job listings. You can also use Google Translate if necessary!
3. Submit applications for availability and interview as soon as possible, so that interviews always have priority over people applying after them: it may take some time before something becomes available!
If none of these options work out, don’t worry – just keep exploring other possibilities (like trading forex) until you come up with a plan!
