Often, we feel like there is a huge amount of pressure on us to be at our absolute best and this could mean that we appear nervous and lack confidence. Impressing your date doesn’t have to be all about suave confidence and taking them on expensive activities and it can also be about being authentic and open. The most important part of it all is that you get the basics right, so let’s make sure we cover them. Here are five easy ways to impress a date.
Just Be on Time
Starting with the easiest and simplest thing you can do to impress your date – or rather to avoid the date instantly getting off on the bad foot – is just being on time. Make sure you start getting dressed and ready early enough that you aren’t rushing to get to the date and leaving you flustered and out of breath, and make sure you plan for any potential delays in getting there. If you absolutely can’t avoid being late, make sure you communicate this as early as possible.
Spend Time on Your Appearance
First impressions matter, and that means you’ll want to spend the time to get yourself looking great. Focus on your hair, clothing, and scent as priorities. Wear clean and ironed clothing and make sure your colors and patterns don’t clash. If you’re going somewhere casual and are going to be wearing shorts and a t-shirt, make sure they’re ironed and avoid t-shirts with controversial statements or brands on them. Don’t show up in your mom’s 30-year-old Volvo station wagon either. If you really want to make a strong impression, luxury car rentals are always an option.
Don’t Appear Cheap
We’re not saying that you should go into debt to impress your date here but making sure that you’re not trying to skimp on the cost of the date is important. Your date will want to feel like they’re being taken care of and that they’re appreciated. This includes the choice of restaurant or activity you invite them on. The quickest way to not get a second date is to take them to a fast-food restaurant. Casual is fine, but not fast food.
Avoid Too Much Drinking
Nobody likes a sloppy drunk, and that’s particularly true on a first date. Avoid drinking too much or too quickly so that you end up drunk, as this can cause a few different bad impressions. Not only will you be more likely to say or do something stupid, but it can also make you look like you’re not in control of your impulses and yourself, which isn’t going to leave a good impression on your date.
It’s not all about money, glamour, and expense when you’re trying to impress your date. Being yourself and being able to demonstrate that you’re interested in them and what they have to say is just as important. Ultimately, it’s important that you don’t force it and let the conversation and the connection happen naturally. Good luck!
